NEBytes November 2012: How Do You Like Your Pi?

Join North East Bytes for our 11th event of the year where we welcome Gary Short back to NEBytes to give us a rundown on all things Pi!!

Date: Wednesday 21st November 2012

Time: 18:30-21:00

Programming the Raspberry Pi is as Easy as… Pie!
The Raspberry Pi maybe a computer on a board, no bigger than a credit card, and running that weird Linux OS, but your programming skills are directly transferable. In this session I’ll introduce you to the Raspberry Pi, show you how to connect it directly to your laptop, then we’ll build a simple application using Mono C# and VistaBD, demonstrating that your programming skills are transferable via Mono C# and your SQL Server skills are transferable through VistaDB’s almost 100% MSSQL compatibility. So come along and let me show you what this “computer for £25” can do.

Gary Short [MVP C#]  - http://twitter.com/garyshort - joined the army upon leaving school and was put on stores duty, where he was responsible for handing out the camouflage paint for trucks and tanks. As the distinctive patterned paint only came it two sizes, small for trucks and large for tanks, he soon grew tired of this work and became a hit man for Chipperfield's Circus. His mission was to track down competing circuses around the world and to kill them. This was very dangerous work as it is hard to kill a Circus, the best way being to always go for the juggler. Seeing there was no future in this Gary then drifted into programming where he pretends to know a lot about Patterns & Practices and he intends to stay in this profession until found out.

Location

The event will be hosted in Room 1.2 of the Claremont Building at Newcastle University.  For a detailed campus map - http://www.ncl.ac.uk/documents/Campus-Map-Print.pdf (Identified by number 32 on the maps).
